The rock is called laterite (from the Latin “later” meaning “brick”). Laterite is usually reddish and some time yellowish and orange colored rock rich in iron and aluminum. Historically, laterite was cut into brick-shaped blocks and used in building. In Many parts of India especially in Kerala and Goa you can find many construction made of laterite. Thus laterite is often called as " Kerala Stone" and "Goa Stone".
